BILLINGS - The flu has now claimed the lives of at least 12 people in Montana, the state Department of Health and Human Services reported Friday.
In the last week of December, the total number of those who reported having the flu was just under 1,000. That number has grown to more than 1,440 in the last week.
The counties with the largest number of new flu cases reported were Flathead, with 94, and Yellowstone and Gallatin counties, both with 51.
Of the 12 flu related deaths reported so far this year, 11 were people over the age of 65.
