BILLINGS - Full-time students at Montana State University-Billings are down for the 2018 spring semester compared to spring 2017, but gains in part-time students helped the college boost overall headcount growth, according to Shannon Wilcox, an MSUB spokeswoman.

Total enrollment at both City College and University Campus increased 4 percent since last spring with 4,299 students attending. Of those, University Campus enrolled 2,691 students and City College enrolled 1,608.

University Campus enrollment decreased just under 1 percent but there was a 14.4 percent enrollment increase at City College.

Fortunately, dual credit enrollment, high school students who receive both high school and college credit, has grown in the past two years. Currently 611 high school students are enrolled at the college. That's up from 413 students since the spring of 2017, or a 48 percent increase.

The college's dual credit program more than doubled in two years.

City College gained 202 students this spring semester but lost the equivalent of 16 full-time students compared to last spring.

A university press release stated both campuses are experiencing the largest increase of in-state students in three years at 89 percent. Of those students, 56.4 percent are from Yellowstone County.

Diversity is also on the rise. Hispanic student enrollment increased 21 percent and Native American enrollment increased by 15 percent. Female enrollment also increased by 20.5 percent.

The College of Allied Health Professions increased 2.9 percent this spring with a 45 percent enrollment increase in undergraduate programs at the Health Care Services Department. Contributing to this growth is the new RN to BSN program with 25 students enrolled.

Additionally, the Biological and Physical Sciences Department programs grew by 6.8 percent, the press release stated.
