Hundreds braved single digit temperatures at Spring Meadow Lake on Saturday for the annual Sweetheart Passion Plunge.
The plunge benefits Special Olympics Montana and is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue geared up to assist costumed plungers as they jumped into the freezing water.
Organizer Domingo Leveque-Zapata of the Helena Police Department jumped a total of five times and said he’s always humbled to see such great support for the athletes.
“We've got great community support and everything went off as planned,” Zapata said. ”The only thing that isn't great is the freezing cold weather."
According to organizers of the event, the plungers raised at least $32,000 this year.
Since 2000, the Sweetheart Passion Plunge has raised over $400,000 for Special Olympics Montana.
