BILLINGS - St. Francis Catholic School was open for class as usual Monday, but a lot of work needs to be done after a water line broke over the weekend.

An estimated 2,000 gallons of water per minute leaked into St. Francis school for two hours Saturday afternoon.

The cost of the damage is unknown but will be added to the $19 million spent to build the school. Flooding damaged the $100,000 gym floor, music rooms and instruments during the incident.

Principal Jim Stanton said he expects difficult days ahead, but he's been overwhelmed by community support.

"It's a setback for our school, no question about it. People rallied, we got the school in pretty good shape right now in terms of getting it dried out, now we're just seeing what the damage is going to be from there and our staff and our kids have been great about it," Stanton said.

A decision on whether to repair or replace the gym floor will be made in the coming days but Stanton said he personally believes the gym floor will have to be replaced.
