Malmstrom airman recognized for saving man's life

GREAT FALLS - A Malmstrom Air Force Base airman is being recognized for saving a citizen's life one year ago.

Senior Airman David Alley is the Air Force Global Strike Command's nominee for the Non Commissioned Officers Association's Vanguard Award.

One year ago, Alley said he was at his home, which is off base, when he and his wife heard banging.

He looked outside of his apartment and saw a man bleeding heavily from his upper arm.

Alley put pressure on the wound and used his neighbor’s dog leash as a tourniquet for the man’s arm.

It is a little surreal almost," Alley said. "I do not feel like what I did was that big of a deal, obviously to the person it was. To me, I was just doing what I was trained to do. I was helping out someone who needed help."

Alley will learn if he won the Vanguard Award in April.

He also received the Citizen Lifesaving Award for his actions from the Great Falls Police Department.
