Maggie Voisin of Whitefish aims high at 2018 Winter Olympics

WHITEFISH - Maggie Voisin of Whitefish is looking to carve her name into Olympic lore by bringing home a medal for Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.

Coming off a gold medal win at the 2018 XGames in Aspen, the expectations are high.

At age 11 perhaps Maggie Voisin's biggest fan was her parents, and nearly a decade later the 19-year-old has skied her way into the hearts of millions as she looks to make America proud representing Team USA at the Olympics.

"This is the mountain I grew up on, this is where it all started," Voisin said. "I was put on skis when I was like 2 or 3. So I was doing free-skiing when I was 9 or 10. This mountain is where I found my passion and my love for skiing."

The two-time Olympian was the youngest skier to be named to the U.S. Olympic Team since 1972 when she was tapped in 2014. But she suffered a broken ankle during training and was unable to compete.

During a visit home before heading to the 2018 XGames in Aspen in January, Maggie said she was at the top of her game.

"I mean honestly, it's kind of crazy for me to say, I mean, I mean this from my heart, it's the best I've skied in years. I'm really looking forward to the season and to the XGames in Aspen."

Maggie became the first American woman to ever win XGames Gold and now she's one of Team USA's top medal hopes in women's free ski slopestyle event.

As the world watches her ski a world stage, she says there is nowhere else she would rather be, adding that the mountain at home is where her heart will always remain.

"It really just brings me back to the true meaning of what skiing means to me and there's not a better place to do it," said Voisin.

Voisin will compete on Friday at 6 p.m. local time. The finals will take place later that night just before 10 p.m
