BILLINGS - For years, gymnastics was a thriving sport in Montana. In Billings, Senior and West high schools combined for multiple state titles, and the sport was popular.
But in the mid-1980s, the sport began to falter for a number of reasons, including cost and the unintended consequences of Title IX. Programs dried up, and gymnastics was eventually moved to club teams outside the school districts.
