Girl injured after falling off fair ride in Missoula in serious condition

Update 2:15 p.m. Friday- The young girl who fell from a ride at the Western Montana Fair on Thursday evening is reported to be in serious condition at a local hospital.

An 11-year-old girl fell off the Typhoon carnival ride at around 6:45 p.m. Thursday. 

Missoula County spokeswoman Anne Hughes said in a news release that "based on reports from the Missoula Police Department, she is in serious condition."

Fair managers said the ride has been shut down for the rest of the fair because of the accident.

An email statement provided to MTN News adds that, "at this time, Fairgrounds staff have no reason to believe other rides pose a risk."

An investigation into the nature of the incident is ongoing.

"We are all deeply concerned for the child and her family. They are in our thoughts and we wish her a speedy recovery," the news release concluded.

Officials at Northstar Amusement of\ Billings, which owns owns and operates the ride, declined to comment.

MISSOULA - A young girl was injured while riding the Typhoon at the Western Montana Fair on Thursday evening.

Emergency personnel responded to reports of an injured girl at the Missoula County Fairgrounds at around 6:45 p.m.

Missoula City Fire Capt. Garrett Venters says the 11-year-old was conscious and alert when responders arrived at the scene. 

He said she was oriented and talking when transported by an ambulance to a local hospital. 

She was wearing a neck brace when loaded onto the ambulance. 

The ride was shut down after the incident, and the company that owns the Typhoon is investigating the incident. 

Northstar Amusement out of Billings owns and operates the ride.
